From President Timothy Scharr: The King of Glory

The King of Glory

Advent is a season which prepares us for the coming of the King of Glory. He is a king like no other. Fully equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, He enters our world by becoming flesh in the womb of the virgin Mary. He lays aside His heavenly splendor to become a man. He comes in lowliness, poverty, and meekness. He came to suffer and die taking the place of every man, woman and child from all times and places.

Once He came in blessing, All our sins redressing; Came in likeness lowly, Son of God most holy; Bore the cross to save us; Hope and freedom gave us. Now He gently leads us; With Himself He feeds us Precious food from heaven, Pledge of peace here given, Manna that will nourish Souls that they may flourish LSB 333:1-2).

The King of Glory continues to come to us today. He is hidden in Word and Sacrament. He, the Word made flesh, uses the Word, printed and proclaimed in Holy Scripture to enlighten and instruct us. The King of Glory feeds us precious food from heaven. He gives us Himself, body and blood in bread and wine to nourish us body and soul that we may flourish, now and forever.

Soon will come that hour When with mighty power Christ will come in splendor And will judgment render, With the faithful sharing Joy beyond comparing. Come, then, O Lord Jesus, From our sins release us. Keep our hearts believing, That we, grace receiving, Ever may confess You Till in heaven we bless You (LSB 333:3-4)

The King of Glory is coming soon. Every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him (Revelation 1:7). His judgment will separate the faithful from the unfaithful, Sin will be gone, grace will be yours in abundance. Confess Him now and till the end that in heaven we may bless Him for all that He, the King of Glory, has done for you.
