Summer Message From President Scharr

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6).

All of this may seem too good to be true. We are talking about things outside of scientific investigation. Science has no answers for the origins of life or what happens after death. People speculate. There are any number of theories. All lack empirical evidence that can be demonstrated, tested, and repeated. This is why the Big Bang and macro-evolution are theories. They cannot be proven by the laws that govern science.

What we have in the Holy Scriptures is divine revelation. It is the testimony of the only known witnesses to these events, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Triune God opens His heart to us as He describes His purpose behind creation. The Lord foresaw the sin of Adam and Eve. From eternity He determined to set things right through His beloved Son. When the Lord brings time to an end, we will continue in His eternal presence. There we will enjoy the inheritance prepared for you since the foundation of the earth.

God created the world with you in mind. The Lord Jesus redeemed creation with a picture of you in His heart. He loves you and forgives you for all your trespasses and sins that you may be His forever. Amazing, but true. As they say, this is wall-to-wall coverage from start to finish. It gives value to your life now and your place in eternity. You and I are known to the Lord, personally and intimately. Psalm 139 reminds us beautifully, “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them” (v. 16).

This is the doctrine of election. That is God in Christ has chosen you “before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved” (v. 4-6). Note carefully that this is entirely a gift. It is pure Gospel. This is the heart of the Triune God for you. He chooses you to be His eternally. And no, none of us deserve it. Our sins would separate us from God eternally. That is why in Jesus “we have redemption, through the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to His grace, which He has lavished upon us in all wisdom and insight, making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time to unity all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth” (v. 7-10).

There is much more that can be said about this beautiful passage of Holy Scripture. Rejoice, you are chosen in Christ and blessed in Him!
