Dr. Mayes’ Biography
Dr. Benjamin T. G. Mayes has served as an Associate Professor at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN since 2016. He also serves as the Chairman of Historical Theology and an Associate Editor of Concordia Theological Quarterly. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Historical Theology from Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2009. His dissertation was published as “Counsel and Conscience: Lutheran Casuistry and Moral Reasoning after the Reformation” (Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2011). Mayes continues to serve as co-general editor for the new volumes of Luther’s Works: American Edition. He has finished his edition of Johann Gerhard’s Theological Commonplaces (Concordia Publishing House) and has recently finished a book: Divorce and Remarriage: Ecclesiastical Discernment and Pastoral Care. He is married to Rebecca and has two sons.
